An award-winning, multi-purpose community sports facility:
gcp were commissioned by Bristol City Council to lead the development of St Paul’s community sports facility. Extensive public consultation and research were undertaken, resulting in the project being able to secure funding from both SWRDA, Sport England’s Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) and the National Lottery Sports Fund.
The consultation and research heavily influenced the final design brief, which included an indoor sports hall, multi-function rooms, a health and fitness suite and three floodlit multi-purpose, all-weather pitches. The project finished on schedule and within budget, becoming the first sports centre in the UK to achieve a BREEAM excellent environmental rating. As a result, it was accepted as a Demonstration Project (no. 359) under the government’s Constructing Excellence Initiative. It also gained a local Civic Trust Award
