background

Richard joined gcp in December 2023 as a Project Architect to assist with the increasing demand in the Sports & Leisure and Retrofit sectors.

Richard started his architectural qualification by completing his Part 1 degree at University of Westminster in London. Following this, he worked in London for 3 years in various architectural firms with a focus on private high-end housing renovations and property development.

Having gained significant experience in planning and construction stages, he undertook his Part 2 Masters at the University of the West of England in Bristol. This gave him more creative design experience with a focus on model making and material testing.

After graduating, he stayed in Bristol to work as a Part 2 Architectural Assistant, while progressing his Part 3 Professional Diploma at UWE. Upon qualifying as an Architect in 2020, he worked on several large scale and high-profile sites in and around Bristol.

experience

Richard has worked on notable projects including a high-rise student accommodation block in the centre of Bristol, and a Passivhaus standard Primary and Secondary School on the outskirts of Bristol. These projects have provided Richard with an in-depth knowledge of DfE compliance, Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act.

He has also provided packages of information for all stages of design including full coordination at Planning, with particular experience in packages for technical and construction information. He is fully trained as a Principal Designer, having completed a CDM regulations course to ensure safe design and construction working methods.

At gcp, Richard has supported our Retrofit work on high-rise blocks and has become a key member of our Sports Team leading the development of Technical Guidance for the England and Wales Cricket Board.
