background

Joe is a chartered Architectural Technologist with a residential design background. He studied architecture before working for several years in a rural Somerset practice. There he delivered housing schemes for developer and self-build clients.

With a keen interest in energy efficiency and environmentally sustainable design, Joe has consistently sought to further his knowledge and understanding on the topic through accredited training. He completed a master’s degree in Architectural Technology and Building Performance and trained to become a certified Passivhaus designer and energy assessor for new-build housing.

Joe joined gcp in 2024 to support the practice’s growing residential work, providing technical expertise, participating in the management of project delivery, assisting in managing client relationships and co-ordinating the gcp project team.

experience

With both a design and technical background, Joe likes to see projects through from initial design stages through to technical design and on-site.  His experience includes preparation of planning submissions and building regulations packages, particularly in the residential sector. Joe enjoys building successful relationships with clients and wider design team, not least when enabling individuals to self-build high-performance homes.

As a certified Passivhaus Designer and accredited Energy Assessor, Joe has the knowledge and experience to advise clients on early-stage Energy Strategies and robust construction details.

Since joining gcp, Joe has provided detailed support to tender packages. He is currently managing the detailed design and energy consultancy for the conversion, retrofit and extension of a 1960s office building into apartments.
